ABOUT “CHARACTERS”
Hand-painted circa 1950 by artist Agnes Sanchez, “Characters” features the sketchbook drawings of family, friends, and people on the streets and subways. Painted directly onto cotton canvas for curtains, the original collection is made up of 6 panels, each one completely unique, each person with a story to tell.

Working with the daughter of the artist, jewelry designer Gabrielle Sanchez, Fallingstar has created a pattern that includes every bit as much charm and story-telling as the artist’s original work, with a half drop repeat at 55” to help keep the same sense of spontaneity.
“Characters” will be available in three colorways: Ink (representing the artist’s original work), Paprika, and Fig. Please inquire about custom colors.

ABOUT GABRIELLE SANCHEZ
Born into an artistic family, Gabrielle knew from an early age that someday she would be a designer. Upon graduation from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 1977, she went to work as a freelance jewelry designer. Within three years, Gabrielle was designing on her own full time. Known as the “mother of pearls” Gabrielle states, “my jewelry designs have always evolved directly from the essence of the materials. Pearls come to us whole and pure, unlike gemstones which have to be cut and coaxed into various man-made shapes for setting.”
Her work has been sold at Barneys, Takashimaya, Twist, Fred Segal and many other boutiques and galleries across the country. Her jewelry has been featured in top fashion magazines in the United States, Europe and Japan, and has been worn by some of the most beautiful women in the world, including Brooke Shields, Elizabeth Taylor, and Kathleen Turner.
Gabrielle says, “my parents were both painters, and looking back on my own creative journey, I realize that my mother was always my muse. Seeing her at her easel, her sewing machine, in the garden, or creating beautiful meals taught me that creativity is a way of life. As a result, I developed a natural sensibility and creativity that informs my work each and every day.”
