Sculptor Michael Evert has been creating portrait sculptures for decades—along the way he made many small “medals”, almost sketches in plaster for his larger work. Evert photographed a selection of his large collection of medals to capture the light and shadow effect that these dimensional reliefs create. The result is a formal, yet whimsical trompe-l’oeil pattern of people and vessels that showcases the textural medium he works in.

In 2024 Michael created his debut pattern for Fallingstar, “Willow”, which has become a favorite in our collection.
In addition to private commissions, Evert has collaborated with Ralph Pucci on portrait sittings with jazz greats, and, at the Museum of Arts and Design, with luminaries from the worlds of fashion and design. He continues to work with furniture and lighting designers and we are proud to be working with him at Fallingstar on wallpaper projects.
